Conviction = Good
Condemnation = Bad
These are too very different kinds of judgment in the Bible.
Jesus teaches when we are to judge a situation (or ourselves), we are to use godly wisdom, extending righteous correction, biblical forgiveness (which is rich in mercy), and focus on heavenly redemption seeking his Salvation.
Righteous judgment (conviction), in the hands of THE HOLY SPIRIT convicts us. Conviction addresses the problem we are experiencing, but it gives the individual light, hope, strength, and insight into correcting the problem, and it is full of mercy for the one who repents. The Holy Spirit brings light and truth, in order, change the person from darkness to light.
Unrighteous judgment (condemnation) in the hands of the Accuser (Satan is called the Accuser of the Brethren). He doesn't want to fix the problem (for he created the problem). He presents the problem as unfixable. He offers no solution to overcoming, the sin at the root of the problem. The accuser mainly focuses on making the person feel BAD, STUPID, EVIL, AND HOPELESS--like himself. The accuser loves to bring darkness. Satan hates the Light and the Truth, that God can forgive our sin and change our heart, and bring us into his kingdom, if we will submit to God, listen to the Holy Spirit, and receive Jesus as savior.
John 3:17-21 (KJV)
For God sent not his Son into the world
to condemn the world;
but that the world
through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
At the end of the road, the wide road that leads to destruction, there will be ultimate condemnation. The ultimate wrath of God against all people who broke Jesus' Commandments, and chose to go their own way, rather than two walk underneath the authority and invitation of Christ--to become a new creature made in the image of God.
For this reason, Jesus came: To redeem broken and sinful men. And to transform them by the grace of the Holy Spirit, and the word of God, working together inside of the man, woman, child--to become a new creature in Christ: abiding in him, walking in his word, living out his message, from the depths of his heart, where his word was, and his being stored up inside the believer/disciple/servant of God/Saint/Brother/citizen, and heir of heaven, sharing in the full inheritance of the son of God, who wants love us and redeem us--from all iniquity.
