God's word is a practical guide:
To Destroy Addictions.
THY word have I hid in my heart,
that I might not send against THEE.
--Psalm 119:11
Jesus gives us his simple steps to destroy the works of the devil.
An addiction is nothing more than a lie, that has crept into your soul, because you allowed it to be there. But we can cancel it's presence, it's power, and it's purpose in our life. And we can do that right now.
Whether you realize it or not, you granted that lie access to your soul. And as long as you allow that lie to have access to your soul, it will have power over you.
That's your choice. You can allow it to continue to destroy you. Or you can choose a different path. The only reason you have an addiction, is because you have chosen evil instead of righteousness, to be your master, your guide, and your Lord.
God has given you that power to choose. And he won't take that power away from you. The addiction is a living lie inside of you. It has power to harm you, and to harm everyone around you. And you let it happen. Every lie, that is living inside of you. is the embodiment of evil. But you can stop it. That is the truth.
The way to destroy the lie is to cancel its access to your soul. You do this by replacing it with the truth. By doing so, you cancel the access the demons have achieved, acquired, gained, and grabbed a hold of.
You know the evil they have done in you, and through you. You have allowed it to happen. But you can stop it, right now. You can shut them down. You can deny them access to your heart & mind. You can kick them out and stop believing the lie they enticed you with originally.
How hard is that? As it turns out, it's very simple. You just store up God's word in your heart, and you believe the truth over the lie.
THY word have I hid in my heart,
that I might not send against THEE.
--Psalm 119:11
You deny access of the lie to your heart. You build up a fortress, a high tower, a refuge, where the enemy can't reach you anymore. You go to the secret place with God, and you build your fortress, upon the word of God and the enemy cannot reach you anymore.
THY word have I hid in my heart,
that I might not send against THEE.
--Psalm 119:11
That addiction that once controlled your life for so many years, can be destroyed in one minute. In an instant. In one decision. In one choice. And God has given you the power to make that choice. To take that step of faith. To overcome your enemy. You have that ability given to you by God.
THY word have I hid in my heart,
that I might not send against THEE.
--Psalm 119:11
It's important that you and I fill the space (that was once occupied by the lie, that created a demonic stronghold) with the word of God.
Matthew 4:4
It is written, men shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word
that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
That is our daily food. We need to memorize his word, so that it can be with us throughout the day, and throughout the night. We need the word of God filling our mind 24/7. Why is that? Because we can come under attack at any moment.
Once we kicked the devil out, that doesn't mean he won't try to come back in.
I think that understanding is sometimes missing in the modern church.
We need to stand against the enemy, at every hour of the day, not just on Sunday morning and Wednesday night. We need to store up the word of God so that it is quick and active, sharper than any double edge sword.
Hebrews 4:12-13 (KJV)
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
It's interesting that that sword, mentioned is a short sword. The Greek word used is machaira. It has two separate purposes:
Hebrews 4:12–13 reminds us, God’s Word is quick, powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword. It pierces deep into our soul and spirit, cutting through our excuses and exposing the true intents of our hearts. It lays us completely open and honest before God.
In Hebrews, the image being used as that of a priest, preparing a sacrifice. The text speaks of piercing to the division of "soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow". In the ancient world, this mirrors the work of a high priest examining or dissecting a sacrificial animal on the altar—laying every part open, exposed, and transparent.
When we let the Word examine and cleanse our hearts, we are left standing in His truth. It is only when we are fully transparent before God that we are truly equipped to stand firm against the enemy. We store up His Word daily, not just to fight, but to be transformed.
In Ephesians 6:17, the Word is called the Sword of the Spirit—our primary weapon for spiritual warfare. This sword is a machaira, a short sword built for close, intense combat against the schemes of the enemy. But before this sword can defeat the enemy outside of us, it must first do its work within us.
Here is how you can blend the imagery of Hebrews 4 (the penetrating, heart-revealing truth of the Word) and Ephesians 6 (the defensive and offensive weapon against the enemy) into a unified devotional piece.
We need to stand against the enemy at every hour of the day, not just on Sunday and Wednesday nights. To do this, we must be deeply anchored in the Word of God.
As Hebrews 4:12–13 reminds us, God’s Word is quick, powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword. It pierces deep into our soul and spirit, cutting through our excuses and exposing the true intents of our hearts. It lays us completely open and honest before God.
We have a choice to make:
We can choose to walk in God's kingdom. Or we can choose to continue giving our life to evil and the devil. The choice is ours. It always has been. And it always will be.
When you believe the lie, the devil becomes your father. As such you become a partner with the lie, and the liar, and your life becomes the playground of evil, for the devil to do his wicked works. That is what addictions are all about.
John 8:44 (KJV)
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
The Lie, that you allow into the depths of your soul, is the attempt of Satan to rule over you through deception, temptations, enticements, seductions.
Satan's evil promises that are designed to destroy not only the man, and but his family, and his whole family lineage.
The devil is a liar, and he has come to destroy you. That's his plan. Do you want to help him accomplish his plan? He wants to steal your destiny. Are you going to let him? He wants to rob you of your inheritance. Are you going to to allow him to take it from you?
John 10:10 (KJV)
The thief cometh not,
but for to steal,
and to kill,
and to destroy:
I am come that they might have life,
and that they might have it more abundantly.
If you want off the merry-go-round of sin and addiction, the word of God gives you the perfect prescription for your disease.
All you have to do is take your medicine, four times a day, and you will be set free.
THY word have I hid in my heart,
that I might not send against THEE.
--Psalm 119:11
When you begin to take God's prescription, his medicine on a daily basis, you will begin to bring glory and honor to God, in your soul, and with a grateful heart, with genuine hope, you will have immediate power over the devil, and all the evil he had intended for you to fall into will be destroyed.
God's word tells us exactly how to win this battle: please read and learn how to Memorize God's word.
As a result, You shall build an Empire of FAITH & FREEDOM, of HOPE & CHARITY, GOODNESS & KINDNESS, and you will become an entirely new man. You will become the master over the liar. By walking with Jesus, you will have authority over the evil one. In Jesus name, he will submit to you. You will no longer submit to him. It doesn't matter where you are or what you've done. God is able to forgive you. And he is just waiting to give you a new life. His life.
The life of God is rooted and grounded in the word of God. As you begin to memorize the word of God, you will begin to delight yourself in its riches. It has the power to deliver you. It has the power to set your mind free. It has the power to overcome the darkness. It has the power to break the chains of addiction. It has the power to enter into the deep places of your soul and bring restoration. The word of God is the sword of the spirit. It is a weapon to defeat all evil.
Psalms 1:1-2 (KJV)
Blessed is the man
that walketh not in
the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
As you begin to store up and hide the word of God in your heart, the kingdom of God comes into you and flushes out the kingdom of darkness. It sets up Shop. And you become a new creation in God. No longer driven, and tossed to and fro by the waves of sin and darkness. God will set your feet upon the path of life, and his life will guide your steps.
Luke 6:45
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart
bringeth forth that which is good;
and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart
bringeth forth that which is evil:
for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
Right now: You may be in prison. You may be in the top floor of the Pentagon.
It matters not. You have only to store up God's Powerful & Effective Word in your heart (4 times a day), and choose to obey it, and you will see the Greatness of God move on your behalf.
No matter what you are struggling with, no matter what burdens you are carrying, no matter how deep the wound goes, no matter how many people have let you down, and betrayed you, no matter how many times you have let others down, let God down, let your family down, broken your promises, God is able to bring you into his kingdom, by his grace and glory, by his love and power, by his forgiveness and his mercy, God is able to restore you.
All you need to do is eat the bread of life. There is a place deep in your soul that absolutely hungers for the truth, for righteousness, for goodness, for God. You were created to have relationship with him. And that relationship is built on the bridge of his Word to your heart. When you invite Jesus in, he will feed your soul with his bread from heaven. All you have to do is store his word up in your heart. And it is miraculous how it keeps your heart from wanting to sin against him.
John 6:31-41 (KJV)
31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. 32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. 36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. 37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. 38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. 39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. 41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
By your testimony of the greatness of God, you yourself will be set free, and so will many others who need the same help you needed when you began to call upon the Name of the LORD, to deliver you from your addictions.
You can avoid thousands of dollars of counseling, psychological analysis, and possibly the hundreds of thousands of dollars of damages, lost through drunken binges, broken marriages, car accidents, failed businesses, destroyed careers, sexually immoral affairs, cheating, lies, betrayals, broken trust, broken promises, destroyed relationships, criminal charges, and bar tabs.
How? you may ask. The answer is simple. Store up God's word in your heart.
Psalm 119:11
THY word have I hid in my heart,
that I might not send against THEE.
By simply applying one simple, direct and powerful, spiritual discipline: memorizing of the word of God--you will release, heavenly resources that will empower your mind, your heart, your soul, your body, and your spirit to walk a new walk, talk a new talk, live a new life, all by the grace of God.
But you must Store God's Word up in your heart. Keep it on tip of your tongue. Repeat it back to God. Repeat it back to your soul. Repeat it back to the devil. Repeat it back to your friends. To your family. To your enemies. Soak your soul through and through with the word of God: And you will bulletproof your life from sin, from darkness, from evil lies and liars, from horrifically stupid decisions, and the past demonic access the enemy had to your soul.
If this is something that is of interest to you: pay attention.
Give God the glory. Destroy the devil's access to your mind. To your heart. To your soul. To the life, God has promised you, if you will just simply learn to walk in his ways. He will forgive you. He will cleanse you. He will free you. He will empower you. To overcome every one of your enemies, every single demon. Every single lie.
Psalms 119:105-107 (KJV)
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.
106 I have sworn, and I will perform it,
that I will keep thy righteous judgments.
107 I am afflicted very much:
quicken me, O LORD, according unto thy word.
Every single addiction has already been defeated. Has already been placed on notice. They are all headed towards hell. But you don't have to follow the liar. Every liar is headed towards hell. So if you don't wanna go there. You have to stop lying.
Psalms 119:130-136 (KJV)
130 The entrance of thy words giveth light;
it giveth understanding unto the simple.
131 I opened my mouth, and panted:
for I longed for thy commandments.
132 Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me,
as thou usest to do unto those that love thy name.
133 Order my steps in thy word:
and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
134 Deliver me from the oppression of man:
so will I keep thy precepts.
135 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant;
and teach me thy statutes.
136 Rivers of waters run down mine eyes,
because they keep not thy law.
Every drunkard is headed towards hell. So if you don't wanna go there, you have to stop drinking. Every sexually immoral pervert, and porn addict is headed towards hell. But you don't have to go there. You can decide right now. Today is the day of salvation.
Psalms 1:2-6 (KJV)
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so:
but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous:
but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
You can stop the train in an instant. You can get off the train towards hell this very instant. You can choose to board the train towards heaven. Once you get on that train. You stay on that train until you reach your final destination.
Matthew 7:13-14 (KJV) 1
3 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
How do you do that? It's not that hard. Yes, there's a battle. Yes, there's discipline. Yes, there's practical steps. But each little step is simple and easy to do by itself. But all you have to do is be faithful to do them. The first thing you must do is store up God's word in your heart. The second thing you must do is obey the word you have stored up in your heart. The third thing you need to do is keep referring to the words stored up in your heart. Sharing those words with others always deepens you, in your commitment to walk out God's Holy Word in your life. His Words shall direct the feet.
Psalms 1:1-2 (KJV)
Blessed is the man
that walketh not in
the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Addictions are formed in the Darkness of the soul.
They come from reaching out to the dark world for satisfaction.
They begin with a temptation, an enticement, a seduction, a promise of pleasure, but because they are conceived in the belly of hell, their end, is the destruction of our soul, spirit, and life.
Matthew 12:35-37
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
The Way to have Power over an addiction is to choose the path of Light.
We must choose to fill our soul with Good things, God things, Holy things, Pure things. Things of Light and Truth. Things of Life & Purity. Things of Holiness & Wholeness. We need to meditate on such things.
Below are just a few verses, emphasizing the love of God, in John 14-17
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
John 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
John 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
John 14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
John 15:9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
John 16:27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
John 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
John 17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
John 17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
The deeper and stronger the addiction, the stronger and more concerted needs to be our pursuit of the Light. If we will only choose the pathway of Light, we can beat the darkness with a stick, and like a mongrel dog, it will be gone from us.
The stick we beat the Mongol dog with, is the same stick. Jesus used in the the desert, went tempted by the devil after 40 days of fasting.
Matthew 4:4
It is written, men shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Now the practical question becomes:. How do we do that?
This was the weapon Jesus used to slice up the lie of Satan.
It is given for an example and a lesson for us to learn from.
In other words, we simply need to store up God's word in our hearts. We cannot bring good things out of the heart, if good things haven't been stored up in the heart.
For that, God has an answer.
Luke 6:45
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
We have the power to put our hearts in the hands of God. We have the power to put our minds in the river of life. To wash our bodies with God's cleaning flood of blood. To drink deep of his living water. We can make the choice on a daily basis to fill our souls with the word of God, that comes down from heaven, and is the true bread that we need to eat.
The way to beat an addiction is to memorize the word of God and fill up place with light that used to be occupied by the darkness.
