A Prophetic Revelation
of “The Road”
Introduction:
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus invites new converts to follow Him.
He makes it clear that following Him is the way to salvation.
Not following Him is the way to destruction.
He is the only way to the Father. In order to walk in a way that follows Him,
We must have a road and a path we can follow.
That road to heaven is His Word.
We are the sheep, that listened to his voice, and follow his commands, wherever he leads us. We follow him, by hering his WORD, and obeying it.
Some examples are: of those who know him.
The sheep,
the wise virgins, [who had oil in their lamps],
the good stewards, [who multipied the talents entrusted to them]
the wise builders [of their houses who built on the rock],
the good fish in the net,
the good seed in the soil that bears 100 fold, Matthew 13.
The welcomed guests at the wedding feast, Matthew 22.
The fruitful vine branches
The frutful trees
The fruitful wheat fields
The possessor of the hidden treasure found in the field
The possessor of the pearl of great price, who sold all he had to buy it,
The second son who did his father's will
The Forgiven who Forgives
The leaven who multiplies into the whole lump
...
If we choose to stop following his voice, stop keeping his commands, and he is no longer leading us, we can easily become compromised.
The foolish virgins. The goats. The man with one talent. The unwelcome guest at the wedding, Matthew 22. The dried out and withered branch on the vine John 15. The tear is among the wheat Matthew for 13.
The consequences for Jesus not leading us are severe:
The parables of Jesus lay this out specifically.
The marriage parable of Matthew 22.
The sheep and goats parable of Matthew 25.
The wise and foolish virgins of Matthew 25.
The wide and narrow road of Matthew seven.
The entire Bible is actually a roadmap depicting how we are to journey on our way to heaven.
This understanding is constantly reinforced by the commandments, teachings, and instructions of God in both the Old and New Testaments. God is looking for those who will follow Him, walking the path of light. This is the road that only a few take.
The alternative is the wide road — the way, the path, the example of darkness. That is the road that many take.
The world wants to make religion about a profession.
The Kingdom of God makes faith about a possession.
When the empty man went on a journey looking for value to fill his soul, he stumbled upon a field with buried treasure. He quickly went and sold all his earthly possessions so that he could become the possessor of this new eternal treasure. [Matthew 13:44]
Faith in Christ is not a badge we wear, but an infinite, intimate relationship that we possess. And possessing our souls in the Kingdom of God separates us eternally from the ways, thoughts, goals, expectations, and rewards of this world.

Teaching Note
1. Jesus IS The Road
John 14:6
"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
The Road is not a principle, it is a Person. We don't follow a map; we follow Him.
2. The Two Roads
Matthew 7:13-14
"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."
One road is popular and easy. The other is narrow and requires surrender. We must choose daily.
3. The Shepherd and the Sheep
John 10:27-28
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life;"
Sheep don't need a GPS, they need to know the Shepherd's voice. Following is about relationship and listening.
4. The Lighted Path
Psalm 119:105
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto mine eyes."
God's Word doesn't light the whole highway at once — it lights the next step. This is how we walk by faith.
5. The Old Path
Jeremiah 6:16
"Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls."
The good road is not new. We must intentionally return to it.
6. Leaving the Old Way
Isaiah 53:6
"All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way;"
Every person naturally chooses their own road. Salvation is stepping OUT of our own way.
7. The Cost of Following
Luke 9:23 / Matthew 16:24
"If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."
Following requires three actions: Deny self, die to self (cross), then follow. You can't follow until you leave.
8. The Treasure That Makes You Leave
Matthew 13:44-46
"The kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field... when a man hath found... for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field."
You don't leave the old road out of duty, but out of discovering something infinitely more valuable.
9. No Longer Conformed
Romans 12:2
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,"
Once on the Narrow Road, you become an alien to the wide road. Your old friends won't recognize you because you are transformed.
10. Walking in Fellowship
1 John 1:7
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."
The Narrow Road is not walked alone. It is where we find true fellowship and continual cleansing.
How to teach it in a session:
Start with Categories 1-2: What is the Road?
Teach Categories 3-5: How do we know and stay on the Road? (Voice of Shepherd, Word as Lamp, Old Paths)
Teach Categories 6-8: How do we leave the other road? (Recognizing we went our own way, counting the cost, finding the Treasure)
Close with 9-10: What does life look like after we switch roads?
